Thai King Suggests Government
mend relations with Cambodia
|
Date: 11
February 2003
His Majesty the King Bhumipol of
Thailand has asked the government to consider mending relations with
Cambodia after receiving a letter from that country's king
apologizing for anti-Thai riots last month.
Cambodian King Narodom Sihanouk
expressed most profound regret for the violence and a sincere desire
to reconcile relations.
Previously, the Thai King has
appealed for clam while Thai demonstrators escalated in Bangkok as
outraged by a photograph taken in Phnom Penh which showed rioters
stamping on a portrait of the Thai king.
Although the king detaches from
daily political lie in Thailand, his influence over the country's
affair is still momentous; he has been known to intervene to resolve
disputes
