Thai-Cambodian ties:
Restored relations refresh Thai business
|
Date: 29 April 2003
After bilateral ties became normal
last week, a group of Thai delegations have already returned to
their duty in Cambodia.
Relations were halted in the mayhem
stormed by the anti-Thai riots in Phnom Penh in January which
prompted the government to downgrade diplomatic relations.
The two countries' ambassadors were
also re-installed in each country last week.
Meanwhile, several Thai projects
and businesses which had previously been stumbled were put back on
track.
Grand Diamond City Group, owned by
a Thai politician and a group of businessmen arranged a special trip
to Siem Reap last week to open Petcharas Tour Co. which organizes
tours to that Cambodian town and its world's famous Angkor Wat.
In revitalized relations, Thai and
Cambodian authorities discussed on a plan to send Culture Minister
Uraiwan Thienthong to Siem Reap in May to promote cultural relations
between the two countries.
Army chief adviser Wichit Yathip
met Cambodian officials in Siem Reap to prepare to resume
construction of a school in Cambodia funded by 20 million baht in
personal donation from HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn.
Apart from these projects, there
are other several opening tourism businesses running by Thai in Siem
Reap, marking the sign of continual development and good ties
between the two countries.
