"Emerald
Triangle" project to boost tourism in SEA

Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia have
agreed to push the project of the golf course spanning over the
linking borders of the respective countries.
The agreement was achieved after a
meeting in Champasak province of Laos between Thai Foreign Minister
Surakiart Sathirathai and his Lao and Cambodian counterparts,
Somsavath Lengsavad and Hor Nam Hong, respectively.
The project known as the
"Emerald Triangle" would be a conventional tourist
destinations between the three countries, covering about 12 square
kilometers where their borders meet.
The project is expected to boost
tourism development of the three countries. However, as the project
is being continued, several possible problems are overseen,
including and mine clearance and potential unfavorable impacts on
the environment.
The area was once a battlefield
where various guerrilla factions of all three countries were active
during and after Vietnam War.
